Steps to Hook Up Soundbar to TV With Cable Box

There are various ways to connect Soundbars to television with a cable box, and some of them are Optical cable, HDMI, and A/V cable. However, the most effective and robust way of connecting these two devices is with the help of the HDMI cable.

Step 1: Put HDMI Cable in Cable Box

To hook up a Soundbar to a TV with a cable box, you will require HDMI cables. In the first step, you have to connect the HDMI cable at the back of the cable box.

You can find an HDMI port in which you have to plug the HDMI cable in the cable box. Ensure that the HDMI cable you are using is not damaged and plugged in the port correctly.

Step 2: Put HDMI Cable in the Soundbar

In the second step, you have to connect the second end of the HDMI cable in the Soundbar. At the back of the Soundbar, you will see two or three HDMI ports that would be labeled differently.

You may find HDMI ARC, HDMI Out, and HDMI IN. You must avoid all the other HDMI ports and connect the cable coming from the cable box into the HDMI Out Port.

Step 3: Use the HDMI to Connect TV

When you have connected the Soundbar and the cable box, you have to connect the Soundbar with the television. To connect the TV and the Soundbar, you will again have to take another HDMI cable.

Connect the one end of the HDMI cable with the HDMI port of the television and the second and with the HDMI ARC port of the Soundbar. HDMI ARC port is known for providing fast and robust connection, which is essential in TV.

Step 4: Use Optical Cable to Connect TV & Cable Box

Now when you have connected all three devices, the connection is still not done because you haven’t connected the cable box with the television directly. To connect the cable box with the television, you can take A/V Cable or Digital Optical Cable.

Here we are discussing the Digital Optical one. All you have to do is connect the one end of the digital optical cable in the compatible optical port in the television and the second end in the optical port on the cable box.

Step 5: Switch on Devices

In the next step, you have to switch on all three devices with the help of the remote control to make certain significant changes to establish the connection ultimately.

Step 6: Change the Output Setting in Soundbar

When you have switched on your Soundbar, use the input button on your remote control to enter the input settings. You have to keep pressing the next button in the input settings until you see the HDMI option. When the HDMI option comes on the little screen on the Soundbar, you have to press on okay.

Step 7: Change the Audio Setting in TV

After changing the input setting on the Soundbar, you have to open the audio setting on your television. In the audio setting, you have to keep scrolling until you see the HDMI option.

Click on it to change the setting. The setting is essential because if you don’t change this, you might not see signals on your television.

Step 8: Enjoy the Connection

When you have changed all the settings of your Soundbar and television, you have successfully established the connection between your Soundbar and tv with the cable box. With the help of the remote control, you can play anything, and the sound of the content will come out from the Soundbar.

Wrap Up

Having a cable box as a part of television can be extremely daunting when connecting the Soundbar with the TV. However, we hope that this process will become straightforward for you with the detailed steps that we have mentioned above.

  1. That doesn’t make sense. Why would you connect the HDMI cable from the cable box to the OUTput of the speaker? The cable box is what provides the sound

  2. Great article, thank you for that information. My sound bar only has an HDMI Arc port and an HDMI In port. Does that mean I cannot connect my components because you specifically say that to the HDMI Out port when connecting the cable box to the sound bar. Thanks 🙏
